May is Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month

We at The Puzzle Nerds wanted to help raise awareness about the little-known disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).

PWS is a genetic disorder that occurs in approximately one out of every 15,000 births. It affects males and females with equal frequency and affects all races and ethnicities.

Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month

Did you know?
PWS is a disorder of constant starvation – imagine feeling hungry all the time!
Socialization is harder for children with PWS as they cannot keep up with their peers.
Many people with PWS have unusual Jigsaw Puzzle skills, far outperforming and placing more than twice as many pieces as their peers unaffected by the syndrome.

The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Canada addresses the many issues related to PWS, including childhood obesity and autism spectrum disorders. The mission of FPWR Canada is to eliminate the challenges of Prader-Willi Syndrome through the advancement of research.
Currently there is no cure for PWS. Only increased research offers hope for more effective treatments.
